Side event of the Malaysia Cancer Society Meeting
Kuala Lumpur, June 22, 2025
The International Cancer Patient Coalition (ICPC), in collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society, will host a high-level policy and advocacy session titled “Next-Gen Diagnostics in Lung Health: From Innovation to Implementation” on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur.
Taking place during the Malaysia Cancer Society Meeting, this lunch session will spotlight urgent needs and scalable solutions for implementing cutting-edge technologies—such as liquid biopsy, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and AI-powered diagnostics—in lung cancer care, particularly across low- and middle-income countries.
Aligning with WHO resolutions (EB156(16) on health financing and EB156/CONF./5 on integrated lung health), the event aims to move beyond innovation to tackle system-level barriers in policy, financing, and equitable access.
Key Highlights:
- Policy Insights from Dr. A. Rahman A. Jamal (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) on integrating liquid biopsy and AI into Malaysian care pathways.
- Health Economics Perspective from Prof. Kenneth Lee (Monash University Malaysia) on financing models to scale access.
- Regional Perspectives from Nigeria, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Spain, ensuring lived experience and equity are central to implementation.
- Patient Advocacy in Action, with Dr. Mark Cheong (Monash University) discussing how real-world data can shape national policy and drive demand.
- Global Framing by Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed (Qatar Cancer Society) and Denis Horgan (ICPC) connecting regional action to global strategies.
Why It Matters:
While diagnostic innovation has accelerated, adoption remains uneven. This session focuses on practical steps to embed these tools in national programs—ensuring they are not only effective, but also affordable and accessible.
Who Should Attend:
Policymakers, oncologists, health economists, industry partners, patient advocates, and stakeholders committed to advancing equitable access to next-generation diagnostics.
