Policy advocacy and community engagement

While successes in cancer care are growing, targeted advocacy is crucial to influence policy and address challenges like fragmented systems and resistance to change. Collaboration among stakeholders and patient involvement are essential to ensure that innovations in care, particularly in precision oncology, are widely implemented and beneficial.

ICPC drives meaningful change in cancer care through strategic policy advocacy, targeted editorial outreach, and an active digital community, all aimed at addressing systemic barriers, promoting collaboration, and ensuring equitable access to innovative care.

Policy advocacy:
ICPC develops comprehensive policy papers that address structural challenges, such as health system readiness and resistance to change, as well as disease-specific issues for cancers like melanoma, breast, lung, and rare cancers. These papers provide actionable recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders worldwide, emphasizing the need for standardization, dissemination of best practices, and patient-centered solutions.

Editorial outreach:
Monthly editorials spotlight regional challenges and successes, amplifying diverse perspectives and fostering global collaboration. By highlighting real-world examples and innovative strategies, ICPC builds awareness and momentum for systemic reforms in cancer care.

Digital engagement:
ICPC maintains a robust social media presence, leveraging platforms like the “Meet the Experts” Twitter Dialogue Series to connect patients, professionals, and policymakers. This initiative promotes real-time discussions on pressing issues such as precision oncology, AI in healthcare, and access to clinical trials, fostering a community-driven approach to innovation.

Overcoming barriers to innovation:
Despite advances in cancer care, challenges such as fragmented regulatory systems, resistance to change, and inconsistent implementation of precision oncology continue to impede progress. ICPC focuses on bridging these gaps by engaging multi-stakeholder groups, including healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, regulatory authorities, and patient advocacy organizations. Patient involvement is at the core of all initiatives, ensuring that solutions are sensitive to local contexts and responsive to cultural and political environments.

Impact:
By combining policy advocacy, storytelling, and digital outreach, ICPC shapes reform, amplifies the voices of underserved communities, and fosters a unified approach to addressing inequities in cancer care. Collaboration among diverse stakeholders is central to ensuring that the benefits of innovation reach all who need them.
